يحتوي هذا الكتاب على نماذج من الخط الديواني منتخبة من مصادر غير متوفرة في الكتب الحديثة، وبالتالي من الصعوبة الإطلاع على بعضها في المصادر الخاصة بالخط العربي، وهي مميزة من قبل أشهر الخطاطين المعروفين بالعالم العربي، كما وفي الكتاب شرح بياني يعلم طلاب الخط العربي الأسلوب الأمثل للكتابة بهذا الخط.
الخط الديواني الجلي فرع من الخط الديواني يحمل خصائصه ومميزاته، عرف هذا الخط في نهاية القرن العاشر الهجري وأوائل القرن الحادي عشر، ابتداعه، أحد رجال الفن يدعى (شهلا باشا)، في الدولة العثمانية. وقد روج له أرباب الخط بالانتشار في أنحاء البلاد العثمانية، وأولوه العناية بكتابته في المناسبات الجليلة الرسمية، ممن اشتهر بتجويد هذا القلم في البلاد العربية "مصطفى عزلان بك". ولما كان لرسم هذا الخط قواعد وأصول فقد اهتم هذا الكتاب الذي بين يدينا بالكشف عنها.
كما واهتم بعرض نماذج لهذا الخط وذلك في القسم الأول منه أما القسم الثاني فعرض نماذج "الخط الطغراء".
