يحوي هذا الكتاب على ثلاثة رسائل، الرسالة الأولى "لابن دريد" "الفوائد الأخبار" وهي عبارة عن رسالة تضمنت أخباراً وإنشادات مغربلة منتقاة فيها الكثير من الفوائد والأخبار. والرسالة الثانية "ليموت بن المزرع "كتاب الأمالي" وهي مكونة من قسمين: أما القسم الأول فله أصل مخطوط، كان ملحقاً بكتاب الفوائد، والأخبار لابن دريد باسم أخبار يموت بن المزرّع، وأما القسم الثاني فهو مجموعة من الأخبار والأشعار جمعت من بطون المصادر التراثية الأصيلة.
أما الرسالة الثالثة فهي "هواتف الجنان" للخرائطي وموضوعها هو ما هتفت به الجن أو نطقت به الكهان مبشرة بمبعث رسول الله صلى عليه وسلم، وبالنظر لما لهذه الكتب من أهمية فقد اعتنى "إبراهيم صالح" بتحقيقها وبالتعليق على بعض نصوصها وبالتقديم لها بنبذٍ يسير جاءت بمثابة ترجمات لمصنفي الرسائل الثلاث.
