عبد المنعم الرّفاعي أحد شعراء الرعيل الأول في الأردن، وقد عرف بشعره الرومانسي الذاتي والوطني والسياسي والرثائي الذي التزم فيه القالب الشطري، بوزنه الواحد، وقافيته الموحّدة، وإن نوّع فيها أحياناً في القصائد المتعددة المقاطع والقصائد التي تنحو منحى "الموشح" والأناشيد. وقد كتب عنه وعن شعره عدد غير قليل من التواليف والبحوث والمقالات. بيد أن هذا الكتاب يتجه وجهة أُخرى في أقسامه الثلاثة.
فالقسم الأول يضم دراستين: الأولى عن الحيف الذي لحق بديوانه "المسافر" في طبعته الثالثة التي أصدرتها اللجنة الوطنية العليا لإعلان عمّان، عاصمة للثقافة العربية لعام 2002. والأخرى عن ظاهرة "المعاودة" وهي ظاهرة فنية مهمة، كان الشاعر معنياً جداً بها في شعره، لكنها غابت عن أعين الدارسين.
والقسم الثاني ضمّ وقفة عند ثلاثة حوارات أدبية مهمة أُجريت مع الشاعر في سني نضجه الإبداعي، وتجربته الشعرية الطولية، وقد دارت على دراسته في الجامعة الأمريكية ومناخاتها العاطفية، حيث انطلقت بداياته الشعرية الحقيقية، وعلى دوافع الشعر وأهدافه، وكيفية الإبداع والكلام على بعض القصائد، لا سيما "المسافر"، وقراءاته الشعرية، وتأثراته القديمة والحديثة، وعلاقة السياسة بالأدب، والالتزام. والشعر العربي المعاصر عامة وفي الأردن خاصة في وقته.
أما القسم الأخير فخصص لاثنتي عشرة قصيدة فقط تمثل توجهاته الشعرية جميعاً.
