يهدف الكتاب إلى دراسة مساحة الخفاء والتجلي بين عوالم الدين ومسارات التدين بالعالم العربي، من خلال تفكيك إشكالية تغيير المعتقد الديني بإعتباره الناظم المركزي الرابط بين الدين من جهة، والتدين من جهة أخرى، تفكيكاً يروم الجواب عن أسئلة الهوية الدينية، وفق تعدد خراط التدين وإشكالياته المرتبطة بالتحول الديني، الإجتماعي والثقافي والسياسي في زمن بات معولماً بإمتياز، وهي الأسئلة التي لا تنفصل عن القناعات والمرتكزات الدينية الجديدة لجيل من الشباب العربي المنفتح بالضرورة على سوق دينية متعددة المنتوجات، تترجم في العمق أزمة الإسلام السني، وخاصة أمام الكم المهول من الأسئلة والمستجدات التي لا تنفصل عن التغيير والتحول؛ بإعتبارهما قانونَيْ الوجود، فلماذا بات الشباب العربي يُقبل على تغيير معتقده الديني متجهاً وجهات تختلف بإختلاف العروض الدينية (المسيحية، التشيع، الإلحاد...)؟ وما مراحل وطبيعة هذا التحوّل؟...
ثم ألا يُشكّل هذا التوتر في الذاكرة الجمعية الدينية رد فعل طبيعي علم حجم التحولات التي يعرفها العالم العربي ثقافياً وإجتماعياً من جهة، وجمود الذاكرة الدينية المؤسسية، مثلما يمثّلها النظام السياسي على مستوى خطاطات الإستبداد، بعدما تحوّل الدين إلى مجرد قواعد وممارسات روتينية مؤسساتية لا تساير حجم هذه التحولات من جهة أخرى؟...
إذا كان التحليل السوسيو - أنثروبولوجي للدين يتم وفق مستويين مترابطين: مستوى المقدس / المفارق ومستوى الدنيوي، أفلا يحق لنا التساؤل عن الخلفية الإجتماعية والثقافية والسياسية للتدين في العالم العربي؟...
كلها قضايا وأسئلة تشكل في العمق الأساس النظري والمنهجي للإنتقال المفاهيمي من الجهل المقدس إلى الجهل المركب.
