رب العمل هو كل شخص طبيعي أو معنوي يستخدم بآية صفة كانت أجيراً ما في مشروع صناعي أو تجاري أو زارعي مقابل أجر حتى ولو كان هذا الأجر عيناً أو نصيباً من الأرباح. وقانون العمل هو القانون الذي يحكم العلاقة بين رب العمل والأجراء لديه. وهذا الكتاب يضم نص قانون العمل اللبناني الصادر في 23/9/1946 وجميع القوانين والمراسيم الأساسية الصادرة بعد هذا التاريخ، ونقول بداية أن الخاضعون لهذا القانون هم جميع أرباب العمل والأجراء إلا من استثنى منهم بنص خاص وتخضع له أيضاً المؤسسات بمختلف فروعها التجارية والصناعية وملحقاتها وأنواعها الوطنية والأجنبية سواء أكانت عامة أو خاصة علمانية أو دينية بما فيها مؤسسات التعليم الوطنية والأجنبية والمؤسسات الخيرية كما تخضع له الشركات الأجنبية التي لها مركز تجاري أو فرع أو وكالة في البلاد.
