الحب كما عرّفه (بويس جيسون) شعور رقيق وعاطفة وتنظيم ثابت معقد لحياة اجتماعية وعاطفية لكن حين يعتبر بمثابة شعور رقيق، فإنه شعور عاطفي أكثر عقلانية ونقاء ورقة. وحين يعتبر (عاطفة) فإنه معقد عاطفي من نوع قوي بصورة سائدة.
لقد عرف (شاند) العاطفة بأنها جهاز منتظم من انفعالات ورغبات إنه أكثر من جهاز من انفعالات.
إن الحب هو التحول العظيم، والقوة الضمنية، إنه المزية الأساسية للحياة وإن الحب هو الفضيلة الأسمى.
الحب هو واحد من الأشياء الأسمى التي تجعل الحياة ذات شأن. كما أشار (برتراندرسل) بصورة موفقة.

يبقى هناك شرط ابتدائي للحب الذي يسمح الأخلاقيون به حتى إذا تغاضينا عن التفاصيل: المتعة من أجل المتعة -هناك تكون قد جلبنا نحو الحب بمثابة فن.
