إنه ليس بالأمر اليسير بتاتا البحث في مقالات ماركس وانجلز البالغ عددها 487 مقالا، وفي دراسات ومساجلات روزا لوكسمبورغ، وفي نصوص الأممية الثالثة، عن كل ما له علاقة بالمغرب وتقديمه وإدراجه في حقبته. فإلى ساعف يعود الفضل لتمكنه من تبيان أنه إذا كان البعض من هذه النصوص «أبعد ما يكون عن تجسيد اللحظات القوية في التحليل الماركسي للاستعمار» فإنه يكشف « أن مؤسسي الماركسي وورثتهم، بقدر ما كانوا يحملون خطابا كونيا جديدا، كانوا أيضا أبناء عصرهم». فنصوص ماركس وانجلز محدودة (قدرة اسبانيا على خوض الحرب، قدرتها الضعيفة نسبيا على الاستعمار بالمقارنة مع قدرات فرنسا وانجلترا) ولا تدرس التشكيلة الاجتماعية المغربية وتطورها مع توغل الروابط التجارية، كما لا تتخذ موقفا رئيسيا من مساوئ الاستعمار الذي تنظر إليه من زاوية مهمته الحضارية. لهذا فإن الأمر يتعلق بنصوص مهمة، ليس فقط لكونها تبرز بالقرينة المعاكسة الطريقة التي يمكن بواسطتها تقييم اسبانيا بالنظر إلى فرنسا وانجلترا، ولكن أيضا لظهور بوادر التعاطف مع هؤلاء المحاربين (رجال العصابات كما يقال لهم اليوم) الذين يمارسون حرب استنزاف، وأيضا لكون الأمر يتعلق على ألأخص- كما يشير إلى ذلك ساعف- بلحظة أساسية من تاريخ المغرب.
