رحلتْ والدتي قبل صدور هذه الرواية بأسابيع قليلة، كنتُ، خلال الأيام الثلاثة الأخيرة، التي قضيتها بجانبها في غرفة العناية المركّزة، أراقبُ الموتَ وهو يجوبُ الأمكنة؛ يخطو فوق الأسرّة البيضاء؛ يُحدقُ في الوجوه المزرّقة، والأجساد التي ثقبتها الأنابيب وانتشرتْ في عروقها الذابلة، المحاليل والأدوية، لم يكن طنينُ الأجهزة التي تحصي على أنصاف الموتى دقائقهم الأخيرة في هذه الحياة، ليعيقني عن تحسس الموت أو إستشعار قدومه.
في تلك الساعات وعلى نحو محيّر، أعدتُ التفكير في كثير من الاشياء التي لا يمكنُ للمرء أن يقف على حقيقتها، إلا حين تصطفُ بجوهرها، في منتصف المسافة بينه وبين الموت.
ما جرى معي في تلك الأثناء، أعادني بالذاكرة لشهور خلت، فحين انتهيتُ من مخطوط هذه الرواية، وقبل أن أقرر نشرها، أرسلتها لشاعر وروائي صديق لي ليطلع عليها، وبعد أيام أرسل لي رأيه بشأنها، وفي غمرة قراءتي لما كتب، عاجلني برسالة يقولُ فيها: "قبل قليل وصلني خبرُ رحيل أحد الأصدقاء المقربين؛ صديق الطفولة، لا ادري كيف حضرتْ روايتك على الفور، تمنيتُ أن يكونَ عالم الموت الذي رسمته حقيقياً، وأن هنالك من يستقبله ويرعاه، ليرحمه الله ويرحمنا جميعاً".
يبدو أن هذه الرواية، تقتصُ من قارئها، بطريقتها الخاصة.
