يسعى المؤلف في هذا الكتاب على إغناء المكتبة العربية بكتاب في الجيوكيمياء وهي مهمة ليست سهلة وذلك لإعتبارات كثيرة أهمها شمولية الموضوع للجوانب الواسعة في هذا العلم المستمر بالتطور، فضلاً عن تضمين الكتاب للنظريات والأفكار والآراء المتقدمة كمحاولة للتواصل مع المستجدات العلمية في هذا الحقل من حقول المعرفة الجيولوجية.
ولتحقيق هذا الإطار العام، دأب المؤلف على إتباع طريقة عرض غير تقليدية لأبواب وفصول الكتاب الحالي لتكون مواضيعه ومفرداته أكثر ترتيباً وتنسيقاً توخياً لسهولة الفهم والإستيعاب وبالإعتماد على الأشكال التوضيحية وجداول البيانات التفسيرية والإشارة إلى الأمثلة الجيوكيميائية العراقية كلما كان ذلك ممكناً ومتوافراً.
ويجد القارئ في الكتاب الحالي توظيفاً للمفهوم الجيولوجي الشائع بأن تحديد طبيعة الأرض الحالية هو مفتاح دراسة نشأة وتطور الأرض البدائية.
يتألف الكتاب الحالي من أربعة أجزاء، ويحتوي الجزء الأول على فصلين يتناولان مقدمة عن الجيوكيمياء علاوة على منشأ العناصر الكيميائية ووفرتها الكونية، بينما يحتوي الجزء الثاني على أربعة فصول تهتم بجيوكيميائية الأرض الحالية بأغلفتها وأنطقتها المختلفة.
في حين اختصّ الجزء الثالث بفصوله الأربعة بمناقشة جيوكيميائية الأرض البدائية، أما الفصول الأربعة للجزء الرابع والأخير من الكتاب، فتناولت جيوكيميائية الصخور النارية والمتحولة والرسوبية فضلاً عن الدورة الجيوكيميائية للعناصر.
