في حوار داخلي، متخيل، تكتب "نوال الجبر" عن المرأة الأنثى، فليس أجدر من المرأة في الكتابة عنها، هي لا تكتب عن امرأة بعينها، بل تدخل في أعماق ذوات نساء مجتمعها، فكتبت عنهم، وغاضت في أحلامهم. هي رواية حملت عناوين مختلفة جاءت تحمل أصواتاً متعددة تحكي الكاتبة من خلالها وضع المرأة في المجتمع التقليدي المغلق إذا أرادت أن تحب، أضاءت بسطورها تلك المسافة ما بين المعقول واللامعقول بمشاهد رومانسية اتخذت من الخطاب الرمزي وسيلة لها، وزاوجت ما بين الرجل في علاقته بالمرأة حين تكتشف في متن الرواية تداخلاً للخطاب الرومانسي مع الواقعي وكذلك أسلوب البوح والإعتراف وأحاديث النفس الداخلية. وكأن الكاتبة تعنى بالحلم على طريقة الرومانسيين أو الرمزيين ببراعة.
في "الجنة" تقول: "لم يسبق لي أن دخلت الجنة، عندما قبلني من فوق خماري، كان لا يعرفني إلا بإحساسه، وأنا المدينة له بكل هذه الأحاسيس، أمسك يدي، أدارني بالخوف، وقلبي يرقص (...) كنت لا أصدق أنني معه، وأننا في معزل عن الدنيا. بدت لي الحياة مستمتعة بهذه المشاهد الرومانسية، أصبحت في يده وردة حمراء مائلة ناعسة هادئة ساحرة، أو أصبحت حمامة لا تبتعد عن خطواته...".
