يضم هذا السفر بين دفتيه دراسات دونت بأقلام باحثين عرب ومستشرقين يهديها أصحابها إلى الكاتب الكبير إحسان عباس لمناسبة بلوغه الخامس والسبعين فقد ولد إحسان رشيد عباس في الثاني من كانون الأول عام 1920 في قرية عين غزال من أعمال حيفا ثم امتدت به رحلة الحياة في حيفا وعكا والقدس والصفد والقاهرة والخرطوم وكامبرج وبرنستون، إلى أن ألقى عصا الترحال في عمان.
وبالعودة لمضمون الدراسات التي يحويها هذا السفر نهجد أن بعضها جاءت لتحليل كتابات إحسان عباس وبالتالي لتقدم قراءة في نتاجاته الفكرية والشعرية والأدبية. ومن هذه الدراسات نذكر هنا على سبيل المثال لا الحصر: إحسان عباس بين الرعوية والرؤية الرومانتيكية (مقدمة في قراءة شعره)، إحسان عباس في نقد الشعر العربي المعاصر، في منزل الوحي وأدب الرحلة...
كما جاءت بعض الدراسات لتحليل ودراسة بعض النتاجات الفكرية العربية المختلفة، نذكر هنا، العودة إلى الذات، ثلاث رسائل زيدية مبكرة، تطبيق نظرية الإعجاز على الشعر، مقامات بديع الزمان الهمذاني (تقنية القناع ومراميها الفنية والفكرية). ولتحيط هذه الدراسات بكل تفاصيل نتاجات إحسان عباس فقد اهتمت دراستين بتحليل السيرة الذاتية لإحسان عباس وذلك من خلال تقديم قراءة لكتاب غربة الراعي "أو سيرة الروح"...
وتجدر الإشارة إلى أن هذا الكتاب هو من أهم الكتب التي دونها إحسان عباس وفيه سلط الضوء على سيرته الذاتية كلها من ولادته وحتى تاريخ كتابته للسيرة: وتجدر الإشارة أخيراً إلى أن بعض دراسات هذا السفر قد جاءت لتعرض ترجمات لبعض القصائد الهامة التي يقول مترجموها أنها قد أثرت بشعر إحسان عباس تأثيراً واضحاً.
