يسعى هذا الكتاب إلى شرح الأحكام الشرعية في الأحوال الشخصية على المذهب الحنفي، حيث اعتمد المؤلف على كتاب المؤلف محمد زيد الأبياني وغيره من كتب المذهب الحنفي، وذلك بهدف التفصيل والبيان على المعتمد عند السادة الأحناف، لأنه أوسع المذاهب الفقهية كما قرره كبار الفضلاء المشهورين كالطنطاوي والزرقا.
لذلك اعتمده كثير من الدول الإسلامية في إستخلاص قوانينها في الأحوال الشخصية، فكان توضيح أحكام الزوج والطلاق عند الأحناف هو شرح لقوانينها؛ لا سيما القانون الأردني الذي أخذ من المذهب الحنفي إلا في بعض المواد.
وبناءً عليه، تم تقسيم الكتاب على بابين وعدة فصول وفق ما يلي: الباب الأول: "الزوج - الفصل الاول: مقدمات الزواج"، الفصل الثاني: "أركان الزواج وشروطه"، الفصل الثالث: "المحرمات والولي"، الفصل الرابع: "الوكالة والكفاءة والمهر"، الفصل الخامس: "أنواع النكاح وإثباته وحقوق الزوجات".
أما الباب الثاني: "إنهاء عقد الزواج وتوابعه"، الفصل الأول: "الطلاق"، الفصل الثاني: "الخلع واللعان والإيلاء والظهار والأمراض التي يفرق فيها"، الفصل الثالث: "العدة وثبوت النسب والحضانة".
