"الإيديولوجية الانقلابية" هي دراسة فلسفية اجتماعية تاريخية في الانقلابات التاريخية الكبرى أو بالأحرى في طبيعة الإيديولوجيات المتكاملة الجوانب التي ترافقها وترجع إليها كمنطلق وكقاعدة تضفي عليها هويتها التاريخية الخاصة وتحدد أساسياً مجراها التاريخي كانقلابات كبيرة، وهي بالتالي تقارن بين هذه الإيديولوجيات التي تقوم عليها هذه الانقلابات التي تظهر في مراحل متماثلة في التاريخ، هي مراحله الانتقالية الثورية الكبرى التي كانت تعنى في تجارب هذا التاريخ الانتقال الثوري من وجود تقليدي إلى وجود جديد يفترض به أن ينقضه في جميع أبعاده ومن الجذور. على صوت كل ذلك يمكن القول بأن هذا الكتاب يصنف جميع الايديولوجيات التاريخية المتكاملة الجوانب في نمطين؛ النمط الميتافيزيقي (الديني) الذي يجد المطلق أو الحقيقة النهائية التي يحتاج إليه كمنطلق خارج الطبيعة والتاريخ، والنمط العلماني الذي يجد هذه الحقيقة في التاريخ ذاته، في المجتمع، أو في الطبيعة الإنسانية وهو يقارن بين ايديولوجيات هذين النمطين فيجد أنها تكشف، رغم اختلافات في المضمون، عن بنية أساسية واحدة تعيد ذاتها فيها كلها، وأن هذه البنية تعود إلى "وضع تاريخي" متماثل إلى "وضع إنساني" واحد كامن وراءه، فالكتاب، كما هو واضح من العنوان، جزءٌ من دراسة هدفها النهائي إدراك التاريخ وخلق وعي تاريخي جديد.
