يضم هذا الكتاب بين طياته بحثاً أعده الدكتور مصطفى عليان وذلك بهدف توضيح مفهوم الشخصية على وجه العموم، والشخصية الإسلامية على وجه الخصوص، في قيامها على المقومين العقلي والنفسي، وما أوجد لهما ألإسلام من قاعدة عقدية قطعية كانت مقياساً لمفاهيم العقل وميول النفس معاً.
وفي ظلال هذا المفهوم للشخصية الإسلامية مرر سريعاً بالأبعاد الجسمية التي جاءت الإشارة إليها في قصص القرآن، مثل جمال يوسف ووسامته، وعي موسى في الكلام وحصره، وقوة داود ومنعته، عليهم جميعاً السلام.
غير أنه تناول بأناة العقلية والنفسية شخصية الأنبياء والمؤمنين، المتوحد بالقاعدة الفكرية العقدية (الإسلام)، والمتحدة في الغاية الدعوية بإقامة شرع الله (الخلافة) في الأرض. وبلور من خلال ذلك قضايا أدبية مدارها على الواقعية، وأسلوب خطاب الأنبياء والمؤمنين لأقوامهم، وطريقة بنائهم لتفكيرهم.
ولم يقتصر في التحليل على شخصية الرجال دون النساء، بل خصص كلاً من مرين بنت عمران وبلقيس ملكة سبأ بشيء من التفصيل، على الرغم من أن مريم نموذج الكمال، وبلقيس مثال التحول من الكفر إلى الإيمان، وذلك للدلالة على أن مقومي بناء الشخصية في الرجال هما عينهما في النساء، من حيث المفاهيم والميول واحتواؤهما بقاعدة انضباط عقدية فكرية.
وانتهى من ذلك إلى رصد اثر بناء الشخصية الإسلامية في حركة القصص القرآني من حيث الصدق والواقعية، والثبات، والتفاوت في المواقف، والبساطة، والتكامل بالحديث، والبعد عن النمطية.
قام المؤلف بتوضيح مفهوم الشخصية على وجه العموم، والشخصية الإسلامية على وجه الخصوص، في قيامها على المقوّمين العقلي والنفسي، وما أوجد لهما الإسلام من قاعدة عقدية قطعية كانت مقياساً لمفاهيم العقل وميول النفس معاً، مع استعراض للشخصيات التي تعرض لذكرها القرآن الكريم.
