إن أول ما دعت إليه الرسل، وأنزلت لأجله الكتب هو توحيد الله ونبذ الشرك. ولهذا بدأ به الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم واستمر يدعو إليه عشرات السنين قبل أن تشرع بقية أركان الإسلام. ولأهمية التوحيد اشتغل بتبليغه علماء الأمة منذ بعثة الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم إلى عصرنا الحاضر، وكان منهم الشيخ محمد بن عبد الوهاب ومن خلفه في العصر الحاضر حيث امتدت دعوته إلى التوحيد لتشمل العالم الإسلامي. ومن هؤلاء الدعاة الشيخ حافظ ابن أحمد الحكمي الذي اختاره الباحث أحمد بن علي علوش مدخلي ليكون موضوعه في رسالته لنيل درجة الماجستير، وذلك لإبراز جهود هذا الشيخ وخاصة في منطقة الجنوب من المملكة العربية السعودية. وتبرز أهمية هذا الموضوع فيما يلي: 1-كثرة مؤلفات الشيخ حافظ في عقيدة السلف إذ أن أكبر مؤلفاته كانت في التوحيد. 2-سيره على منهج السلف في إثبات العقيدة واعتماده على الكتاب والسنة في ذلك. 3-ما تركه من الأثر الواضح في المنطقة وغيرها. 4-ما حبي به الشيخ من الفهم لنصوص الكتاب والسنة مع صغر سنه-وفي ذلك دعوة لشباب الأمة إلى البحث في مصادر الإسلام الأصيلة.
