إن معرفة النحو العربي لا تتحقق عن طريق الدراسة النظرية فقط لهذه القواعد، وإنما تحتاج إلى تطبيق عملي يغني القاعدة ويساعد على تمثلها وفهمها. كان هذا الكتاب الذي هو خلاصة خبرة المؤلف وعمله الدائب في تدريس مادتي النحو والصرف. حيث يركز فيه على النحو التطبيقي دون إهمال للقواعد والأسس النظرية لعلم النحو، وهدفه اتخاذ التطبيق نموذجاً يُحتذى به في سلامة التعبير، وهادياً يبتعد به عملياً عن اللحن والركاكة والأخطاء الشائعة التي يحفل بها اللسان العربي المعاصر.
ولذا أغنى المؤلف المادة النحوية بالأمثلة والشواهد، مختاراً منها ما فيه توجيه دينيّ ووطني، وخلقي... من آيات القرآن الكريم، والأحاديث النبوية الشريفة، والشعر العربي، والشواهد النثرية. وينقسم الكتاب إلى خمسة أبواب جاءت كما يلي: الباب الأول ويتألف من فصلين موضوعهما: الكلمة وأقسامها، وشواهد عن الأسماء، والأفعال، والحروف ثم الإعراب والبناء، والفرق بينهما عملياً. وعلامات الإعراب التقديري... الباب الثاني وموضوعه البناء، شملت موضوعاته: معنى البناء، والأحرف، والأفعال والأسماء المبنية. الباب الثالث وموضوعه الجملتان، الاسمية والفعلية. الباب الرابع موضوعه موقع الجمل من الإعراب واشتمل على الجمل التي لا محل لها من الإعراب، وشبه الجملة والتوابع. الباب الخامس وموضوعه العدد والمعدود، الاسم الممنوع من الصرف. وأنهى هذا الكتاب بفصل قدّم فيه المؤلف شواهد معربة من القرآن الكريم وأخرى من الشعر العربي: القديم والوسيط والحديث.
