هذا الكتاب يروي الأحاديث في مختلف مباحث الصلاة على النبي عليه السلام بأسانيده, فهو بذلك يسهل معرفة الصحيح منها والضعيف ومن أهم ما تناوله الكتاب ما يلي: ذكر قولهم للنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كيف الصلاة عليك وتعليمه لهم, الصلاة عليه كلما ذكر, ذكر قول النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم أولى الناس بي يوم القيامة أكثرهم علي صلاة, قول النبي علي السلام إن صلاتكم وتسليمكم تبلغني, قول النبي عليه السلام إن البخيل من ذكرت عنده فلم يصل عليّ صلى الله عليه وسلم, قول النبي عليه السلام من صلى عليّ صلاة صلى الله عليه عشراً, الصلاة على النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم عند الصباح والمساء, الصلاة على النبي عليه السلام يوم الجمعة, ما أمر به النبي عليه السلام من الصلاة عليه مع الصلاة على المرسلين, مسألة الوسيلة لرسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وثواب من سأل ذلك, أمر النبي عليه السلام المتوضىء أن يصلي عليه مع وضوئه, ما أمر به النبي عليه السلام من الصلاة عند طنين أذن الإنسان وذكره, ما ذكر من صلاة النبي عليه السلام على غيره ودعائه بالصلاة عليهم.
هو أبو بكر أحمد بن عمرو بن الضحاك بن مخلد بن الضحاك بن مسلم الشيباني, ولد سنة ست ومئتين, وتوفي سنة سبع وثمانين ومئتين.
