هذا الكتاب بانوراما واسعة تضيء ساحة الفكر الديني وساحة رؤى المفكرين (لاهوتيون كانوا أم صوفيون وفلاسفة) نحو الله وتضم هذه الرؤى تنوعاً كبيراً وتبايناً حتى في داخل الدين واحد.
ما طبيعة الله؟ ما صفاته؟ أين يقيم؟ في السماء أم في الأرض؟ أم أنه يقيم في الأعماق العميقة داخل الإنسان (الدنيا كلها لا تسعني وإنما يسعني قلب عبدي المؤمن)؟ أهو شيء لا كالأشياء أم لا شيء؟... كثيرون من يتقدمون للإجابة: من أرسطو اليونان مروراً بأفلوطين النصف وثني النصف مسيحي والمجامع الكنيسة وأوغسطين... ثم بفلاسفة ولاهوتيي الإسلام وصوفييه: ابن سينا، الفارابي، أبو بكر الرازي، ابن حنبل، الأشعري، السهروردي، ابن عربي، الحلاج... ومفكري اليهود وأحبارهم في العصور الوسطى إنتهاءاً بالمفكرين والفلاسفة في العصر الحديث من دينيين ولادينيين: توما الأكويني، ابن تيمية الدمشقي، ابن القيم الجوزية ثم في عهد أقرب: ديكارت، هيغل، فيورباخ، كانط، نيوتن، محمد إقبال، الأفغاني، محمد عبده...
والغرب الذي حاول التوازن بعد عنفه الذي فرض فيه العقيدة، نراه يفقد التوازن من جديد لكن بإتجاه معاكس فيطغى الدنيوي على الديني ويتم السعي إلى إنهاء سلطة الله المطلقة على البشر حتى لو كان موجوداً كما كانوا يقولون.
واليهودية الضائعة في الشتات، الباحثة عن المخلِّص الذي وعدهم الله به منذ الأزمان القديمة، اليهودية هذه تَعْثرُ على مخلِّصها: تتوجه الأفئدة إلى /شبتاي زيفي / الذي أعلن نفسه المسيح المنتظر، ولكن باللخيبة والمرارة حين يرون مسيحهم يستسلم أمام السلطان العثماني ويعلن إسلامه.
ومع العنف الغربي بالإتجاه المعاكس يبدأ الإنهيار في اليهودية وتفقد ثقتها بالله، ورغم الإهتزاز العنيف الذي تعرضت له اليهودية والمسيحية الغربية جرِّاء تلك التطورات العنيفة التي عصفت بالغرب ورغم إعلان الحبر اليهودي إدانته لله إلا أنه أعلن إنتهاء المحاكمة ونظر إلى أعلى وقال: حان وقت الصلاة.
وبالنظرة الشمولية التي يقدمها هذا الكتاب إضافة إلى ما يمتلكه القارئ من ذخيرة يمكن أن يكوِّن نظرة معرفية تعلو بقدر ما يشحذ همته على الأخذ من جماليات كل الطرق ليتبين الطريق الموصل إلى برِّ الأمان.
