إن للدعاء درجة سامية، ومنزلة رفيعة وأهمية كبرى، إذ الدعاء هو العبادة. وقد سمى الله الدعاء ديناً في غير ما آية، والدين هو الإسلام كله، كما سماه عبادة في غير ما آية، والعبادة هي العلة الغائية للوجود. وقد تناول الباحث جيلان بن خضر العروسي موضوع الدعاء في كتابه هذا الذي جاء ضمن جزئين والذي تضمن أربعة أبواب وخاتمة. تحدث في الباب الأول عن معنى الدعاء وأنواعه وآدابه والإجابة وأنواعها. وتحدث في الباب الثاني عن منزلة الدعاء ومكانته في العقيدة وأهميته من بين سائر العبادات. وتناول في الباب الثالث الدعاء غير المشروع. وأما الباب الرابع فقد حوى مناقشة الباحث لبعض شُبَه المجيزين للدعاء غير المشروع. وأما الخاتمة فقد احتوت على أهم النتائج الذي توصل إليها الباحث في مجال الدعاء.
