هذه مجموعة من المقالات التي تتحدث في مجال فهم الدين وهي وإن كانت بحسب الظاهر متنوعة الموضوعات ومتفرقة الأفكار إلا أنها تنتهي إلى محورين جامعين، أحدهما أهمية المنهج النقدي مع عدم التقليل من أهمية المنهج الجزمي، إذ إن لكل منهما دوره ومجاله.
والمحور الآخر لهذه المقالات هو التأكيد على أهمية العلاقة بين الاجتهاد والحياة، ويعني ذلك لا بدية البحث في واقع التفسيرات الدينية وتأثيراتها على الحياة سلباً أو إيجاباً، فإن ذلك يرتبط بمدى حقانية تلك التفسيرات إذ لا يراد الدين لذاته، بل لتكون له جدوى في حياة الإنسان.
وكذلك تؤكد هذه المقالات على أهمية البحث التاريخي كمقدمة ضرورية للاستنتاج الفقهي لا تقل أهمية البحث الأصولي الذي يتولى تنقيح القواعد الدلالية، وتستند هذه الأهمية إلى أساس أنه لا يمكن الترعف إلى الأبعاد الحقيقية للنص بمعزل عن الظروف والملابسات التي صدر فيها.
