نسمع كثيراً أو ربما نقرأ أو نقول عبارة (فألقى خطاباً) أو (فخطب خطبة) أو (فقام فيهم خطيباً)، وهي عبارات تدل على أن شخصاً ما ألقى كلاماً في محفل من الناس واقفاً على منبر أو مرتفع، واعظاً أو مبيناً لموقفه، أو طارحاً لمبادئ ما، في مسجد أو حسينية أو قاعة، أو غير ذلك.
هذا في الحقيقة هو مبدأ الخطابة، لكن ما هي الخطابة وما معناها، وما هو تاريخها، وكيف هي الخطابة في الإسلام وسائر الملل والأديان، فهذا ما يتكفل بشرحه وتوضيحه الكتاب الذي بين يديك.
ومن الخطابة عموماً ينطلق المؤلف للحديث بإسهاب عن الخطابة الحسينية -لأنها الأبرز- وعن مراحلها، وتطورها عبر التاريخ، كما تحدث عن التفنن في الخطابة، والخطابة ودورها الإعلامي، ودور الخطباء في التبشير، ومسؤولية الخطيب، وموقعه ومكانته وعلمه ومواصفاته، وأشار إلى مرادفات الخطيب، وتناول أيضاً موضوع نوعية الخطابة وزي الخطيب ولغة الخطيب وطرح المؤلف ضرورة إقامة نقابة عالمية للخطباء فأسهب في الحديث عن نظامها وأهدافها والمغزى منها، إلى الكثير من المواضيع التي تتعلق بهذا الموضوع.
ولا بد من الإشارة هنا إلى أن هذا الكتاب هو دراسة مفصلة عن الخطابة قام بها المؤلف محمد صادق الكرباسي لتكون بمثابة مقدمة تمهيدية لكتابه "معجم الخطباء الحسينيين) وهو أحد أجزاء الموسوعة الكبرى (دائرة المعارف الحسينية).
