يتناولُ هذا الكتابُ، بالعرْض والتحليل، جملةً من نصوصٍ قَصصيّةٍ تنتمي في أغلبها إلى السّرد العربي القديم الذي مثّله الناقدُ العراقيُّ "عبد الله إبراهيم" بالقارّة المجهولة التي تحتاج للاكتشاف". ولعلّ ما تنماز به هذه النصوصُ دون غيرها هو أنّها لم تُتناول بالبحث والتحليل من لدُن الباحثين إلاّ على استحياءٍ. فكان المشغلُ الرئيسُ، الذي يُحرّك هذا الكتاب من بدايته، تسليطُ الضوء على هذه النصوص القصصيّة القديمة باستغلال مادّتها، وقراءتها قراءةً حديثةً، والتّنقير في مسالكها، واستنباط مقوّماتها ودلالاتها البيّنة والمُضمرة على السّواء. ولقد توسّلنا، لإدراك هذه الغاية، بأجهزةٍ تحليليّةٍ حديثةٍ من شأنها أن تعود على البحْث والباحث بالفائدة العميمة. إلى ذلك، فالكتاب مقسّمٌ إلى فصولٍ ستّةٍ، يُعنى كلُّ فصل منه بتحليل نصٍّ من هذه النّصوص القصصيّة، ومقّدّمة منهجيّة عامّة ضمّنا فيها بعض الآراء والإشكاليّات الخاصّة بهذه النصوص، وخاتمة عامّة سعينا فيها إلى التذكير بأهمّ النتائج التي يُمكن الخلوص بصددها في هذا الكتاب. ولا شكّ في أنّ هذه الدراسة- وكلّ دراسة من هذا القبيل- ضروريةٌ للوقوف على مدى شعريّة هذه النصوص القصصيّة التي تجعلها قمينةً بالبحث.
