"التلخيص في علوم البلاغة" هو عبارة عن تهذيب للقسم الثالث من كتاب "مفتاح العلوم" للإمام أبي يعقوب السكاكي، وترتيب له. فقد جرّ الإعجاب بكتاب مفتاح العلوم الإمام القزويني إلى تلخيصه فجاء التلخيص كثمرة لما غرسه الإمام السكاكي ونهج السكاكي في تقسيم علوم البلاغة هو النهج المتبع المعتمد عند كل من جاء بعده من علماء البلاغة وفي كتاب التلخيص نبذات من آراء وأقوال الإمام عبد القاهر الجرماني إمام البلاغة في القرن الخامس، وصاحب كتابي (دلائل الإعجاز) و(أسرار البلاغة).
وقد جاء الكتاب محققاً حيث عمل المحقق على وضع تبويباً للتلخيص، وخطاً عاماً يسير عليه دارس الكتاب ومطالعه. فكان المضمون يسير على النسق التالي: فاتحة كتاب (التلخيص) تعلم الغزويين. مقدمة في تعريف الفصاحة والبلاغة، الباب الأول: في علم المعاني. الباب الثاني: في علم البيان. الباب الثالث: في علم البديع. ثم ملحقاً يحوي: خاتمة في السرقات، فصل في المواضع التي ينبغي للمتكلم أن يتأنق فيها.
