سمبلين مسرحية للمؤلف الإنجليزي وليم شكسبير. تصنف بالكوميديا التراجيدية لأن فيها خصائص تراجيدية وكوميدية. تجري أحداثها بين بريطانيا وايطاليا في زمن أغسطس قيصر عندما كانت بريطانيا خاضعة للإمبراطورية الرومانية قبل ظهور المسيح (عليه السلام). تبدأ القصة بمحاولة الملك تزويج ابنته سمبلين من ابن الملكة "كلوتن" إلا أن حبها الكبير لبستيموس الذي تربى في كنف والدها الملك ويتسم بأخلاقٍ عالية، مما جعلها ترفض هذا الزواج ويقرر بستيموس الزواج منها فيقرر الملك نفيه. وليتأكد بستيموس من وفاء وعفة حبيبته، يتراهن مع الروماني ياشيمو على مبلغ نقدي كبير. وبعد أن تصده سمبلين يفتعل ياشيمو طريقة خسيسة كي يوهم بستيموس بأنها خائنة. عندها ينهار بستيموس ويرسل خادمه بيزانيو ليقتلها ثأراً لشرفه. فهل سيكتشف بستيموس الحقيقة أم أنه سيرتكب أكبر خطأ في حياته؟
