إن الحسد مرض نفسي خطير، له آثار سيئة تلحق الحاسد، وتؤثر في صلاته الإجتماعية، كما تؤثر أسوأ التأثير في معاملته لمن يحسده، وقد يؤدي حسده لشخص من الأشخاص إلى أن يقتله أو يوقع به أضراراً شنيعة، وقد يتعدى ضرره فيلحق المحيطين بالمحسود والملتقين به، سواء أقرباء أو أصدقاء أو غيرهم.
فهو من الرذائل الخلقية ذات النتائج النفسية والإجتماعية السيئة جداً على الأفراد والجماعات، ولشدة خطورة الحسد بينا في هذه الرسالة حقيقة وجوده في كل إنسان بالفطرة، لكنه ليس مبرر لحسد الناس على ما أتاهم الله تعالى، فالحسد كغيره من أمراض القلوب التي قد تتواجد في كل إنسان، لكنه مطالب بتقويمها وتهذيبها وبذل الجهد في محاولة التخلص منها بكل إستطاعة، لانه مؤاخذ عليها وكذا أوضح المؤلف في هذه الرسالة الحسد حسب شدته، من خلال ثلاثة مباحث وهي المنافسة، دركات الحسد، الإصابة بالعين أو النفس.
المبحث الاول وهو مباح ومع ذلك بين فيه أن خلو النفس منها أسلم للصدر، المبحث الثاني وقد بين مدى خطورة كل دركة وما توصل إليه من أضرار بالآخرين وبالحاسد نفسه، أما المبحث الثالث بين فيه كيف يصيب الإنسان بنفسه أو بعينه ومدى تأثير هذه الإصابة في وقوع أضرار على الآخرين أو حتى على نفسه، ثم أتى بالعلاجات الشرعية المناسبة لأصحاب النفوس التي ذكرت في المبحثين الثاني والثالث، والتي يحدث منها الضرر، وكذا العلاج للمتضررين وكيفية دفع الأذى عن أنفسهم.
