يجمع هذا الكتاب بين خبرة العمل السينمائي وخبرة الكتابة السينمائية المفيدة, لأنه لا يتحدث فقط عن الفيلم أو المخرج, إنما ينفتح على طبيعة الفيلم ومشاكل انتاجه ويكشف جوانب صناعته المعقدة، ويذهب أبعد من ذلك إلى تسجيل ظاهرة الإنتاج السينمائي في المنطقة التي يصنع فيها المخرج فيلمه أو أفلامه، ويضعها أمام تجارب أخرى مما يجعل من هذه الكتابة ملف شهادة يمكن الرجوع إليه للتعرف على أسس الواقعية وراء ظاهرة الإنتاج السينمائي وعلى درجة ومستوى تطور الصناعة والدافع وراء إنتاجها.
يتألف الكتاب من سبعة فصول، يقف كل فصل فيه عند ما هو تاريخي وفني واقتصادي واجتماعي سينمائي، دون أن يغفل المؤلف، فيما يكتب في كل من فصوله، ذائقته وتقويمه الخاص، وهو إذ يتناول السينما والفيلم لا يتجاهل دور مخرجه أو ظروف إنتاجه، إنما نجده يبحث أيضاً في الفترة التي ينشأ فيها نوع أو تيار سينمائي ذو ملامح خاصة ومزايا مشتركة، ويحاول أ، يلقي الضوء على الظروف التي تؤثر في ظهور أو انحسار مثل هذا النوع أو ذلك التيار.
وتتضاعف أهمية هذا الكتاب مع غياب الصحيفة اليومية أو المجلة الأدبية الفنية المختصة، انطلاقاً من الدور المعرفي في تدوين وتسجيل ذاكرة الثقافة السينمائية العربية.
