إن دراسة السلوك الإنساني ليست بالحديثة، فمنذ بدء الخليقة وحتى الآن، يسعى الإنسان جاهداً لفهم سلوكاته، وسلوكات الآخرين وقد حظيت دراسته باهتمام العلماء من مختلف ميادين المعرفة – الطبيعية والإنسانية- الاجتماعية كبيولوجيا السلوك ووراثة السلوك، والسيكولوجيا – والفسيولوجيا – وعلم التربية وعلم الاجتماع والتقنيات وغيرها، كما تصدت لدراسته البحوث والدراسات العالمية (الأمريكية، والأوروبية الغربية والشرقية)، والعربية ، والمحلية، وانبثق عن ذلك حصيلة كبيرة من المعلومات عنه تمثلت بظهور مدارس، واتجاهات عديدة لوصفه وتفسيره، لكن عن سر العلاقة التبادلية – الارتباطية ما بين السلوك الكلي أو المركب من جهة، والأجهزة التنظيمية (كالجهاز العصبي، وجهاز الإفراز الداخلي مثلاً) من جهة أخرى، ما زلنا نعاني من ندرة وشح، وضآلة في المعلومات، الأمر الذي يتطلب مزيداً من تكامل الاهتمام في مختلف مجالات علم النفس الفسيولوجي، والتفاضلي، وفسيولوجيا النشاط العصبي العالي، والكيمياء الحيوية، والفيزياء الحيوية، وهندسة الجينات لاستقصاء حقيقة العلاقة، وبهذا الصدد يتعجب ألكسي كارل في كتابة الإنسان – ذلك المجهول، من اهتمام الإنسان وإصراره العنيد في معرفة واستكشاف الأشياء في محيطه الفيزيائي، كالفضاء مثلاً ولكنه يتعامى وينأى بعيداً عن اكتشاف العلاقة بين نفسه وجسده؟ إذ أن معرفة هذه العلاقة بين أعقد تكوينين في الكون، سيفتح آفاقاً جديدة أملاً في الوصف، والتفسير، والضبط، والتنبؤ، والتعديل للسلوكات الإنسانية.
