إن للحسين والمبادئ التي قدّم نفسه قرباناً من أجلها مكانة عند محبيه والعارفين لحقه؛ لأن تلك المبادئ والقيم التي آمن بها الحسين رضي الله عنه وضحّى في سبيل إحيائها هي القيم الربانية كلها التي أنزلها على أنبيائه ورسله على مرّ الزمن، لما فيها من نجاة للبشرية من شرك الضلالة، ووصولها إلى شاطئ الأمان والعدالة الإلهية، فأوجد قتله حزناً ولوعة في قلوب المسلمين، فأرّخ له من أرّخ، وتعنّى له بقصائده الشعراء، وكتب عنه وعن ثورته الخالدة من كتب، وأستقى الفقهاء من أحاديثه ومروياته وأقواله علومهم، فتجمع الكمّ الهائل من العلوم بمختلف الثقافات بإسم الحسين رضي الله عنه، وتوزّع ما كُتب في رفوف المكتبات العالمية؛ الخاصة والعامة.
من هنا، برزت الحاجة لأهمية البحث عن كل ما يربط بالإمام الحسين، ضمن عمل موسوعي "موسوعة" واحدة، لتسهيل عملية عثور الباحث والقارئ على ضالتهما في هذا المجال، وانبرى لهذا العمل الدكتور الشيخ محمد صادق الكرباسي، وأنشأ المركز الحسيني للدراسات منذ عام 1987م، وشرع يكتب في الموضوع وينشره بإسم "دائرة المعارف الحسينية"، حتى وصلت أعداد المطبوع منها إلى يومنا هذا، أكثر من ثمانين مجلداً، شملت مختلف المواضيع التي تتعلق بالحسين رضي الله عنه، كتبت بمنهجية علمية وأكاديمية حديثة.
ونظراً لإحتمال إتساع عدد مجلدات هذه الموسوعة في المستقبل، ووصولها إلى قرابة الألف مجلد في ستين باباً من أبواب المعرفة، كان لا بد من ترشيد بعض المواضيع التي لا بد من ترشيدها وجمعها بمؤلف خاص، لما في عملية البحث والإطلاع في هذا العمل الموسوعي الكبير من صعوبة على الباحثين، لذا شرع الشيخ الكرباسي لإتمام أجزاء الموسوعة الباقية بإخراج هذه المواضيع تباعاً ونشرها على شكل كتاب مستقل، لتيسير الإطلاع عليها لمن يريد.
وفي هذا السياق يأتي كتاب "تاريخ السدانة الحسينية" للدكتور الكرباسي الذي يتابع فيه المؤلف تاريخ سدانة العتبة الحسينية البشرية في كربلاء المقدسة، وتجدر الإشارة إلى عمل الدكتور الإمامي في هذا الكتاب الذي بين يدي القارئ، والذي تمثل في إدراجه ما يناسب في المقام مستلّاً من الكتاب الأصل للدكتور الكرباسي، من أجزائه الخاصة بباب تاريخ المراقد.
