المسرح يساهم في حركة الواقع المعاش ولا يمكن حصره أو عزله أو تصنيفه داخل خانة ما أو زي دارج (موضه). وما أن ندمجه في الحياة اليومية حتى لا تعود له من حدود، ويفقد فجأة طابعه بصفته مظهراً من مظاهر الحضارة، ولأن الكاتب حمل المسرح في داخله كحركة يومية استطاع أن يدرك إلى أي حد هو أساس الغرب. فأن نعيش المسرح اليومي، هو أن نستطيع في وقت واحد أن نكون ذاتنا والآخر: أي المواطن الأصلي والغريب.
وهكذا عاش الكاتب تجربة أن يكون وعلى التوالي وثم في آن معاً الشرق والغرب، وتعلم أنه إذا فهمنا ما لا نستنفذه في العفوية، إذا استطعنا أن نراقب من الخارج المشهد المتعدد للعالم فإننا نحول إلى مسرح ما لا نعانيه بشكل فوري. وبما أن هذا الفوري مفتوح على الازدواجية، فإننا نستطيع أن نتضاعف دون أن نضيع. وهذا يعني أنه ليس بالإمكان الكلام إلا عما عاشه الواحد ولو بشكل مؤقت أو عابر. والتحدث عن أي عمل مسرحي يعني فصله عن الواقع مرتين لأنه مفصول عنه بسبب وجوده بالذات كمشاهد مسرحية وليس الكلام عنه ضمن رؤية ومعاناة شخصية فالأمر يتعلق بتجربة فنية للغاية: أي بتجربة انخراط وانفصال معاً.
والواقع أن كل فنان هو ممثل ومشاهد في وقت واحد. وإذا لم تكن ضحية هذه الحركة الدائمة التي قد تتلاشى بسهولة في لعبة تافهة، فإننا نستطيع أن نعيش في عالمين دون أن نستسلم للتمزق. تلك هي رؤية نعيم قطان حول المعمل المسرحي كفن منغمس في الواقع ومولّد منه والعمل الجسدي المسرحي سوف يكون عبثياً إن لم يعلن العودة إلى الواقع. فبعد انتهاء المسرحية والتصفيق لها والاستمتاع بها تجيء الحياة اليومية لكي تستعيد حقوقها من جديد. والقارئ أمام كتاب تعيد كل صفحة منه اكتشاف نفس التجربة الجديدة من خلال مشهد مختلف، وكل صفحة تشبه حزمة من الضوء القاسي المنعكس فجأة على أعماقنا، على تجابه عصورنا وقاراتنا، على روحنا كما على حروبنا ومدننا، على الأدب كما على السياسة والعلم. ولكن قراءته كم نشعر بأننا تحررنا شيئاً فشيئاً من جميع الأفكار والأساطير. وكم نشعر بأننا أصبحنا قادرين بعد الاصطدام بكل تلقي الدروب المسدودة على القيام بانطلاق آخر، مختلف.
