في شهر حزيران من العام 1982 قامت إسرائيل بشن عدوان على لبنان. استخدمت إسرائيل في هذه العملية الأسلحة الأميركية كافة التي بحوزتها بهدف تدمير البنية التحتية للمقاومة الفلسطينية. امتدت رقعت الاحتلال الإسرائيلي حتى طالب العاصمة بيروت لتكون بذلك أول عاصمة عربية تدخلها إسرائيل. وبعد حصار استمر 72 يوماً خرجت المقاومة الفلسطينية لتنتشر في خمسة بلدان عربية أخرى. بعد ذلك، دخلت إسرائيل بيروت لتواجه مقاومة لم تكن في حسبانها. كذلك قام مقاومون بالتوغل ضمن مناطق الاحتلال جنوباً وصولاً إلى جليل لبنان، مشكلين بذلك عملاً ضد الاحتلال سمي بغير المنظم. هؤلاء المقاومون هم "ثوار الجليل" موضوع هذه المسرحية التي كتبت شهادة للتاريخ الذي كثيراً ما ينسى أو يتجاهل.
تجرى أحداث هذه المسرحية في صيف عام 2000 بعد اندحار جيش العدو الصهيوني الغاصب لجنوب لبنان، متمماً بذلك آخر فصول عدوان الـ82.
