يدعو التوجه الإسلامي الصحيح إلى نبذ العصبية والتعصب، ويؤكد على ضرورة الانفتاح الكامل على الآخر صاحب الرأي المخالف إذ أن التعصب يسد منافذ النظر العقلي المجرد، ويدق إسفينا بين أبناء الأمة الواحدة، ومن هنا كانت فكرة هذا الكتاب الذي يجمع بين دفتيه مقالات لعلماء مسلمين ها لهم ما تعانيه الأمة، فأخذوا على عاتقهم مسؤولية رأي الصدع والدعوة إلى الحوار الذي يجمع ولا يفرق.
ففي مقالة الشيخ "علي طه" نقرأ عن مبدأ التعددية الفكرية وحرية الفكر التي تتفرع عنها حريات أخرى، لا يمكن أن تمارس إلا إذا توفرت التعددية الفكرية وأجواء الحرية. وفي أسس تشخيص التعصب ذهب الشيخ "محمد يونس" إلى أن مفهوم التعصب وأن بدأ على ظاهره نقيضاً للانفتاح والتساهل أو التسامح من بعض وجوهه إلا أنه في الواقع يأتي أولاً على حد الإفراط لمفهوم الحكمة.
أما الشيخ "محمد يزبك" ففي مقالته "العصبية والتعصب" يتحدث عن التعصب من خلال بعض أسبابه وآثاره السلبية كما يرى أن العصبية والتعصب من لوازم التركيب البشري. ويرى الشيخ "محمود نزهة" أن المتعصب بعيد عن القيم والأخلاق ومتجاهل للموازين الإلهية والإنسانية، فيقع في الباطل والظلم والجهل والضلال فضلاً عن الانحراف الأخلاقي الذي يؤدي إلى الحقد والسب والشتم وبالخصوص التعصب المذهبي.
ويرى الدكتور "محمد طي" أن الإنسانية عانت من آثار التعصب الشيء الكثير لذلك هبت لمقاومتها بالوسائل المتاحة وإن أمام الإنسانية مشوار طويل عليها فيه أن تقاوم ثقافة التعصب. وفي "عناصر التعصب" ذهب الشيخ "إبراهيم بدوي" إلى أن التعصب للحق هو التعصب الوحيد غير البغيض وهو في جوهره عين الحيادية التي تقابل التعصب البغيض، وليست تسميته بالتعصب سوى من ضيق التعبير. وذهب الدكتور "حسن نصر الله في مقالته إلى أن التعصب الحاقد والإثم هو الذي أدى إلى حروب مدمرة وفتاكة بين البشر، الحروب العرقية، والمذهبية، والطائفية، والعالمية.
