"تحرك المهد سهواً وهي مطرقة، وتنشد الليل أنغاماً مع المقل، في وحشة لم تجد في المهد مؤنساً، إلا صريراً من الأخشاب كالزجل، ألوت تهدهد في أحضانها جسداً، من الملاحف في حمى من القبل، وساخن الدمع قد سالت ذوائبه، مشعة لتجلي بارق العطل، وخلف كل نشيج زفرة سلبت، من قبضة الكف ما أمسى من الأمل، ثم ارتمى صدرها فوق الفراش وقد، نامت أمومتها في غفوة الأزل".
"ذاكرة بلا أبواب".. هو الديوان الثاني للشاعر الذي كان قد أصدر قبله ديوانه الأول "مرآة الروح" سنة 1989، وتؤكد قصائد هذا الديوان الثاني أن صاحبه عاشق للشعر بمختلف أطيافه، وهكذا تتلاقى في سماوات روحه قصائد امرئ القيس وطرفة بن العبد مع قصائد المتنبي وأحمد شوقي ومحمد مهدي الجواهري وإبراهيم ناجي وصولاً إلى قصائد بدر شاكر السياب ونازك الملائكة وصلاح عبد الصبور، فالمهم عند محمد بن خليفة العطية أن يكون الشعر شعراً بكل معنى الكلمة.
من هذا المنطلق فإن صاحب "ذاكرة بلا أبواب" لا يتعصب لشكل شعري ضد سواه، حيث يترك الحرية كاملة لتجربته الإنسانية لكي تتشكل موسيقياً في الإطار الذي يتسق معها ويتوافق، وهكذا تتجاوز قصائد الشعر الحر مع القصائد ذات النهج المتوارث، وكأنها تتحاور فيما بينها، وتنعم بحسن الجوار.
