"نح يا خليج فكم شهدت بكائي، لما خلوت بعبرتي وشقائي، لم لا وقاعك ساعة الشكوى مدى، همي وموجك كالصدى لعنائي، إني ارتميت على ضفافك بعدما، حم الهجير بعلة الرمضاء، فلكم وجدت بك العزاء إذا انتهت، نفسي إليك كليلة بالداء، ولقد جثوت على الرمال ميمما، وجهي إليك بلحظة استرخاء، فانتابني روع الزمان ومثله، وغضب الرياح على سكون الماء، إني أتيتك يا خليج وقد سعى، قلبي إليك بعجزه ورجائي، من مجهل الدرب الضرير وقد رست، فيه الخطى موؤودة الأهواء، حتى انتعلت أنين آلامي على، شظايا فيك شحوب أحلامي وقد نسخت ملامحك من الأنواء".
على امتداد قصائد هذا الديوان، يهدي الشاعر "محمد بن خليفة العطية" لقارئه العربي، مرآة تختلف تماماً عن سواها من المرايا التي نعرفها ونألفها ونطالع وجوهنا فيها كل صباح، فهذه المرايا المعروفة تنعكس على صفحتها المظاهر الخارجية لنا ولكل ما يواجهها من أشياء، أما المرآة التي ليست كالمرايا، فهي التي تنعكس على صفحتها أعماقنا المكنونة، بكل ما في الأعماق من حزن أو إشراق، وبكل ما تضمه من يأس أو أمل، وهذه المرآة التي تختلف عن سواها هي "مرآة الروح".
