كأي ماروني لبنان، غنّى العروبة في شعره، يسدل إدمون رزق تجربته الخاصة أثناء التواجد السوري في لبنان في سبعينيات القرن المنصرم.
وفي هذا العمل يدلي المؤلف بشهادات حيّة، ومنها حكاية الإتصال الرسمي الأول بين سوريا والكتائب، وموقف الشيخ بيار الجميل الذي كان مقتنعاً بالعلاقة المميزة بين البلدين حينما قال: "إن صداقة سوريا، ولو ترتب عليها خلاف مع أي دولة أخرى، أفضل من صداقتنا لأي دولة أخرى يترتب عليها خلاف مع سوريا". لقد كان إدمون رزق من الذين عايشوا وعاينوا تلك الفترة بعمق، فهو من الذين اعتبروا " ... أن العلاقة بين البلدين في شكل عام، وبين سوريا والجانب المتخوف منها تاريخياً، اي المسيحيين، وأهل الجبل خصوصاً، وصلت في وقت ما، وحتى تشرين الثاني 1977، إلى حالة نموذجية، كان لها أن تسهم في تجاوز المحنة اللبنانية، وبدء عهد من الإستقرار والإزدهار والأمن ... لولا أن طرأ ذلك "العبور" الدراماتيكي إلى القدس، الذي قام به، منفرداً، الرئيس المصري الراحل أنور السادات، واتفاق كامب دايفيد الذي نتج عنه، فعاد لبنان ليدفع فاتورة السلام الأعجز، بعد أن دفع فاتورة فك الإرتباط في سيناء والجولان".
يضم الكتاب مجموع مقالات تلم بالموضوع السوري، خاصة بأدمون رزق، جمع نماذج منها وقدمها للقارىء تعبيراً وتعريفاً بفئة لبنانية أصيلة هم الموارنة، الذين رفضوا دوماً الإنفصال عن أرضهم ولا عن جذورهم العربية، فكان إدمون رزق يتحدث بلسانهم خلال فترتين زمنيتين، مختلفتي الأحداث والمواقع: الأولى تعود إلى أوائل الستينات، وهي مقتطفة من مقالات يومية للكاتب في جريدة "العمل" الناطقة باسم حزب الكتائب، والثانية: تبدأ مع أحداث لبنان، أواسط السبعينات، وهي بعض ما نُشر في بعض الصحف مثل: "العمل" و "الجريدة" و "الحوادث" , "اللواء". كذلك يورد الكاتب كتابات له في الثمانينات والتسعينات طبعت بطابعها تلك المرحلة من عمر لبنان.
