في إحدى الليالي الباردة، تلتقي ماريا الفتاة الجامعية التي تعاني من ماضٍ غامض يؤدي بها إلى العيش في دار للأيتام لتحيا حياة يائسة مليئة بالأحزان، وفراس الشاب الناجح الذي يسعى إلى إثبات نفسه للحصول على إحدى شركات أبيه.
يقرر فراس إستغلال ماريا لتكون دميته لمدة شهر عربوناً لإنقاذه حياتها، فتجد ماريا نفسها مجبرة على الموافقة لترد له الجميل وتنقذ نفسها من تهمة السرقة.
يسعى فراس إلى إسفزازها بثرائه وقوة شخصيته لكن ماريا المتمردة الجريئة ترفض تحكمه بها كيفما يشاء فتجذب إنتباهه قوة عزيمتها وبرائتهما ونزعة الحزن التي ترافقها ليقع قلبه ضحية لغرامه وهذا ما كان يحاول الإبتعاد عنه، لأن مصيره المهني معلّق بزواجه بولاء الورثية للشركات المنافسة له، في حين أن ماريا تكتشفه حبها له لكن حادثة تخلي والدتها عنها، وهي في السادسة من العمر، تظل تلاحقها لتعكر حياتها حتى عندما تكتشف هوية والدتها الحقيقية.
رواية مؤثرة، حبكتها صدف الحياة ونزوات القدر، تجمع قلبين متأججين بالمشاعر، ليشاء القدر أن يفرقهما لترحل معه نزعة الحب ليحل مكانها الحزن والأسى.
