لقد اجتمع ما يكفي من أسباب لانهيار الدولة العثمانية، وكلها مسؤولة بقدر ما عن الانهيار، وكان ينبغي أن تنال قسطها من الدراسة، كل بعضها وقد همّش إلى درجة التجاهل لدى الكثيرين، ولذلك ستكون الدراسة في هذا الكتاب بمثابة إعادة قراءة لعوامل هي أساسية في عملية انهيار الدولة العثمانية وذلك من خلال المادة قراءة الحدث التاريخي وقياس تأثيره. وقد استوجب ذلك من الباحث الاطلاع والتحري في الكتب والوثائق العربية والأجنبية لاستجلاء أبعاد الاشكاليات المطروحة، وإعادة تركيب الحدث المدروس وتقديمه ضمن سياقاته التاريخية وتفاعله وتأثره وتأثيره بالمجموعة المركبة المتكاملة لعوامل الانهيار الأخرى.
إن إعادة قراءة هذه حرصت على ألا تنزع من الحدث تاريخيته، ولم تقدمه بمعزل عن أطره السياسي وفضاءاته الاجتماعية، بل تعاملت معه كجزء من مركب متكامل. وسيرى القارئ نتائج هذا الجهد في الاستعانة بالأطر المرجعية المختلفة الاتجاهات، مع تبين نظرة نقدية تحليلية في التعامل مع هذه المراجع، بهدف إعطاء صورة متكاملة عن موضوع خضع طيلة الوقت للإيديولوجيات المتصارعة واستخدام ووُظّف سياسياً بشكل كبير.
ويبقى القول بالمراجعة النقدية لبعض الأحداث التاريخية ضرورياً، لا لسبب سياسي أو موقف إيديولوجي، وإنما لسبب منهجي تاريخي، لأنه لا بد من المادة تقديم لتاريخنا الحديث، ولعوامل التجزئة التي تعيشها المنطقة، ولأسباب بؤسها وتخلفها الاجتماعي والسياسي معاً.
وأما لما سيتناوله الباحث في هذه القراءة فإنه سيهتم، وبشكل أساسي، بعوامل محددة، يتعرف لها في ستة فصول هي: نظام الامتيازات الأجنبية، التنظيمات، الوصايا الغربية على الأقليات الدينية، تغلغل القوانين الوضعية على حساب الشريعة الإسلامية، جذور الفكر القومي التركي، سياسة التتريك والدعوة إلى قيام دولة طورانية على أنقاض الإمبراطورية العثمانية.
ويقول الباحث بأن أغلب هذه العوامل مازال قائماً في واقع الاجتماع والفكر الإسلاميين، ولو بأشكال مختلفة، لذلك فإن دراستها لا تساعد على معرفة أفضل لانهيار الدولة العثمانية فقط، بل تسهم أيضاً في تفسير التمزق الحادث في عالمنا الإسلامي اليوم.
