لان اللغة العربية في العصر الحديث كانت من ضمن اللغات التي شغلها مبحث اسم الآلة وقد كان بحثه مؤرقا للمجامع اللغوية والمؤسسات من جوانب عديدة لذلك ضم الكتاب دراسة تتألف من مقدمة واربعة فصول فقد بينت المقدمة اهمية الموضوع وابعاده وشملت ايضا عرضا لأبرز الدراسات التي بحثت اسم الآلة والمنهج الذي سارت عليه اما الفصول الاربع فقد بحث الفصل الاول في اسم الآلة من حيث المصطلح والمفهوم اذ جاء مفهوم اسم الآلة متباينا عند من عالجوا هذا المبحث قديما وحديثا اما الفصل الثاني فقد بحث في صلة اوزان (اسم الآلة ) بأوزان صرفية اخرى كالمصدر واسم الزمان والمكان وبعض صيغ المبالغة . اما الفصل الثالث ففيه مناقشة للصعوبات والتحديات التي اعترضت طرق البحث في( اسم الآلة) وخاصة ما نشهده من تقدم علمي وتقني وفيه ايضا عرض لآراء عدد من الباحثين ابرزها مناقشات الاعضاء في مجمع اللغة بالقاهرة, كما جاء فيه ايضا حديث عن تعريب اسم الآلة لما لهذا الموضوع من قيمة متنامية في الوقت الحاضر . والفصل الرابع والاخير ضم الجانب التطبيقي من هذه الدراسة ويقود ايضا الى نتائج مدعمة بنسب حقيقية تمكن الباحث من فرز الصحيح من الخطأ بشأن كل ما يقال عن اسم الآلة ويسهل ايضا اضافة المقترحات التي تعنى بهذا الموضوع وتزيد من اهميته .
