عني علماء العربية بدراسة النحو، الذي ازدادت الحاجة إليه مع ازدياد الحاجة إلى صيانة القرآن الكريم من التحريف والتصحيف. غير أن الدراسات تلك ظلت ذات منحى محدد، حيث لم تخرج عن إطار المحاولات الهادفة إلى تعقيد بعض القواعد وإحكام أصولها. كما شهد العصر الحديث عدة محاولات تصب في هذا الاتجاه، وهي محاولات تستفيد من نظريات غربية معاصرة. غير أن الباحث في التراث يجد بذور أعظم نظرية لدراسة النحو هي (نظرية النظم) للإمام العلامة عبد القاهر الجرجاني في كتابه (دلائل الإعجاز) وقد استطاعت المؤلفة أن تضع قواعد ثابتة لنظرية النظم التي قوامها معاني النحو، إذ لم تجعل غير المعاني أسساً للقواعد النحوية، وهي بهذا تؤسس لإيجاد قواعد نحوية جديدة في ضوء نظرية عربية أصيلة.
وقد توسعت المؤلفة في النظرية لتشمل الدرس النحوي بموضوعاته كافة.
سبرت المؤلفة في هذا الكتاب أغوار "معاني النحو" اعتماداً على نظرية النظم وذلك ايماناً منها أن اللغة العربية لها مكانة خاصة وتحتاج لكل جهد لازالة الشوائب عنها، ففي الكتاب الذي استأثرت معاني النحو على جزء كبير منه تناولت المؤلفة بشكل جديد ودقيق بعض التعريفات للمعاني النحوية كالاسناد والجمل الاسمية والجملة الظرفية متنقلة في هذا الباب من موضوع لآخر بعد أن تعطي مادته حقها من البحث والتحقيق، مستوفية بذلك كل ما يتعلق في الموضوعات التي تطرقت إليها، دون أن تغفل استخدام العبارات البسيطة المفهومة كي يتمكن أكبر عدد من القراء من الافادة من موضوع الكتاب الذي الذي لم يحمل كذلك معاني الجمل كي تكتمل الصورة اللغوية عند القارئ الذي لن يجد أية صعوبة في فهم محتوي الكتاب بل وسيتفتح ذهنه على أساليب لغوية ومعانٍ نحوية من الصعب أن يجدها في غير هذا الكتاب.
