لم أتردد على الإطلاق في إفادة القارئ العربي بنقل هذا الكتاب القيم، الذي يتسم بثراء موضوعه وتميز نهجه وبساطة وأفكاره. وينقسم الكتاب إلى خمسة فصول، يعنى الأول بتقديم للموضوع والثاني بإيضاح النموذج الجديد المطروح وهو النص في مقابل نحو الجملة وخواص النصوص المدروسة، والعلاقة بين مفهوم النص وارتباطه بتوسيع مجال النحو. ويتناول الثالث إطار نظرية لغوية للنص تعنى بسلامة الصياغة وكمال التأليف، والشروط الواجب توافرها عند بناء نظرية. ويفرد فصلًا خاص للنحو، هو الفصل الرابع الذي يحدد فيه موضوعه من وجهة نظره، وكيف يمكن توسيع إطاره بمراعاة شروط عملية الاتصال، والوظائف الاتصالية والمقاصد وغير ذلك. ولذلك فهو يمثل الفصل الأكبر والأهم في هذا الكتاب. أما الفصل الخامس المتميز، فقد يعنى بتصوره الخاص عن بناء نظرية للنص، تهتم بتحقيق الوظائف الاتصالية. ويقدم الفصل السادس موجزًا عامًا، يلخص فيه أهم الأفكار والآراء والتصورات التي طرحها في الكتاب.
وقد أثبت المؤلف الهوامش في آخر الكتاب، وهي على كل حال قليلة، ولم يذيل الكتاب بقائمة للمصطلحات. ولعل سبب ذلك أيضًا هو قلة المصطلحات المستخدمة وعدم استعمالها بمدلولات خاصة.
