الكتاب الذي نحن بصدده هو كتاب جمعه مصنفه وهو " الإمام عبد الوهاب بن محمد بن يحيى ابن منده العبدي الأصبهاني" فيما يبدو وكأنه أوراق يتذكر بها ما راق له من بعض كتب العلم، فقد جمع فيه أكثر من ثلاثين كتاباً هذا غير المفقود من الكتاب، فالكتاب فيما يبدو فقد معظمه فلا توجد به مقدمة وإن كان ترتيب الكتاب ليدل على أن الفقد في أوله قد يكون قليلاً أو قد لا يتعدى المقدمة، أما الفقد بداخله وبين أجزائه فقد يكون كبيراً وعلى الرغم من ذلك فهو خمسة وأربعون عنوناً تتعدد موضوعات هذه العناوين، وفيه أكثر من ألف ونصف الألف من الأحاديث ومئات من أبيات الشعر، وكثير من الأقوال المأثورة، والفوائد الحديثية وتراجم الرجال. والمطلع على متن الكتاب يلحظ مما فيه من علوم كثيرة ومعارف جليلة سعة إطلاع المصنف على الرغم من أنه كان رحالة تاجراً يتجول بين البلاد...
وما ميز هذه الطبعة من هذا الكتاب هو التحقيق الذي جاء عليها والذي يهدف إلى إجلاء ما فيها من غوامض الكلمات، كما وإلى تقديم الأبيات المدرجة بالمتن مشكلة تشكيلاً تاماً أما الآيات القرآنية والأحاديث النبوية فجاءت مخرجة ومضبوطة بالشكل التام أيضاً.
