كان يمكن لعنوان هذا الكتاب أن يكون مختلفاً بعض الشيء، فبدلاً من "سيرة عاطفية لرجل آلي" كان يمكن أن يكون: سيرة عاطفية لرجل العصر؛ بكل قيمه وتجلياته وتعقيداته، عندئذ فقط تمارس الكتابة لدى فيديل سبيتي فعلاً "تغييراً" أكثر منه "مرآتياً".
في الكتاب نصوص ذات مناخ جامع يقارب من خلالها الشاعر يوميات رجل مديني، يقوم بأعمال مختلفة تؤدي إلى أحداث تجري في أمكنة مختلفة ومعينة، بعضها في الشارع، وبعضها في غرف المنزل، وبعضها في الحانات، تستنطق أثر الزمن على الجسد والروح عند بني البشر، وبكلام آخر، علاقة الفرد الراهن نفسه بكل تفاصيل الحياة الراهنة غير الراسية على شكل محدد بعد.
تحت عنوان "في وجه العالم" يقول الشاعر: "الليمونة الصفراء على الشجرة، ستهترىء، لأنك لن تقتربي لتقطفيها. ستطيلين التأمل فيها حتى تسقط من الخجل.
والدور الأزعر سيبقى بعيداً، يعرف أن يديك فخ، فنجان القهوة سيبرد لأنك تطلبينه رغبةً بالجلوس في المقهى.
الأصدقاء سيتفرقون لأنك تكرهينهم.
وحدها أصبعك الوسطى ستبقى لامعةً ونضرةً وجديةَ. أصبعك الوسطى المرفوعة في وجه العالم".
يضم الكتاب ما يزيد عن الخمسين نصاً إبداعياً جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "مغنية صلعاء" ، "أزهار طازجة" ، "سماء قاسية" ، "أب مفقود" ، "الرجل الشجرة" ، "المسرطن" ، "التلفزيوني" ، "مرآة الميت" ، (...) الخ.
