انطلقت فكرة هذا البحث من الرغبة في استقراء الأئمة الذين تدور عليها الأسانيد، ومعرفة طبقات أصحابهم، ثم إيراد نماذح تبيّن اختلاف روايات الأصحاب عن الأئمة، وأثر ذلك في علم العلل، فيكون الاستقراء والإحصاء ركيزة هذا البحث.
ولتحقيق ذلك الغرض: قمت أولاً بسرد عدد من كتب الأئمة المتقدمين: يحيى بن معين، وعلي بن المديني، وأحمد بن حنبل، ويعقوب بن سفيان، وغيرهم.. رحمهم الله تعالى، بدءاً بالأقدم فالأقدم، واستخرجت منها ما وجدته مفيداً في البحث؛ فتجمع عندي جذاذات كثيرة جدّاً.
غير أن البحث الاستقرائي الإحصائي وحده لا يؤتي أُكله، ما لم يُبن على ذلك تأصيل مسائله وقواعده، وذلك يستدعي تحرير المصطلحات، وتشييد الأسس النظرية التي ينبني عليها الفهم الكلي لذلك العلم، مع ربط ذلك بأمثلة تبيّن الميدان التطبيقي العملي لقواعد ذلك العلم ومسائله؛ لذلك رجعت إلى الجذاذات التي كتبتها، وإلى كتب علوم الحديث، وإلى كتب أصول الفقه، واستخلصت أبحاث هذه الرسالة وأمثلتها، وفق خطّة الرسالة، التي تضمّنت أبوابها وفصولها.
ووقد توزعت خطة البحث وفق ما يلي: الباب الأول: تأصيل المصطلحات، الباب الثاني: معرفة مدار الإسناد وصلتها بعلم العلل، الباب الثالث: علل التفرّد (تفرّد المدار ورجال المخرج)، الباب الرابع: أهميّة معرفة مراتب الرواة عن مدار الإسناد في الحكم على الحديث وبيان علله.
