لم يكن هذا الكتاب مجرّد عمل بحثيّ يعني يلمّ المادّة التاريخيّة وتقرّبها وإستجوابها بحياديّة وبرود؛ بل هو عمل اندغم فيه الذاتيّ بالموضوعيّ، وتداخل فيه المعرفيَّ بالحدسيّ.
لذا، اتسمت لغته، على غير ما هو معهود في اللغة البحثية، بالحرارة والسلاسة والجوّانيّة، كما اتسمت، على غير ما هو معهود في اللغة الأدبيّة، بالكدح والصرامة ودقّة النظر ووضوح المقولات.
مع أنّ الكتاب يستقصي تاريخ البحرين وشيخها محمّد بن خليفة، الذي نفته بريطانيا المستعمرّة إلى الهند عقاباً له على محاولته الإستقلال عنها وعن نفوذها الإستعماريّ، إلاّ أنه يضيء مساحات أكبر من ذلك في الزمان والمكان، ليصبح موسوعة حقيقيّة قيّمة يُعتَمَد عليها لا في تاريخ البحرين فقط، بل في تاريخ الخليج العربيّ بأسره، وفي تاريخ تشكّلات إنسانه، وإمتداداته، وتحوّلاته عبر الزمان، ونضالاته ضدّ محاولاته الغزو وأطماعه، وتقلّبات أحواله، وأثر كلّ ذلك في بناه الإجتماعية والسياسيّة والإقتصاديّة.
إنّ عمل المؤلّفة ليس مجرّد إعادة بناء للذاكرة، بل هو أيضاً إعادة بناء للحلم، إنّ شخصية محمّد بن خليفة، الّتي تمثّل بؤرة هذا العمل المهمّ، مرتبطة كلّياً بحلم الإستقلال الّذي تغذّت عليه الشخصيّة العربيّة طيلة القرنين الماضيين، ولذا فإنّ التاريخ، الّذي نتداوله في هذا الكتاب، ليس مقصوراً على ما مضى وانتهى، بل هو ممتدّ في ما سيأتي.
إنّه - بعبارة أخرى - تاريخ أماميّ ينكص إلى الماضي ليضيء الحاضر والمستقبل وليجعل الزمان متصلاً كنسيج واحد.
إنّه كتاب خاصّ وفريد ولا غنى عنه لكلّ من هو معنيّ بتاريخ الخليج العربيّ وتاريخ البحرين، تلك الجزيرة الصغيرة التي ارتبط أسمها، منذ البداية، بإسم العبيديّين في مراحل ما قبل التاريخ، ولعبت، بعد ذلك، دوراً هاماً في تاريخ الحركات السياسية والثوريّة في الإسلام.
