في هذا الكتاب يتناول الأستاذ "صالح بن سليمان بن محمد العمري" تراجم علماء آل سليم وعلماء القصيم الآخرين خلال القرنين الثالث عشر والرابع عشر الهجريين. ويعطي صورة عن الحياة الإجتماعية في نجد، ويركز على نشاط العلماء خاصة وصلتهم بالناس وبالحكام حيث يقوى الإلتحام بين الدين وقضايا المجتمع في هذه الفترة، وحيث يشتد العلماء في محاولة تقويم عقائد الناس والعودة بهم إلى صفاء العقيدة كما كانت في الصدر الأول للإسلام.
وفي هذا السياق يوضح المؤلف الكثير من جوانب الحياة في القصيم في الفترة الآنفة الذكر، وخاصة صلة العلماء بالمجتمع، وتقاليدهم وطرقهم في التربية والتعليم، ومناهجهم التعليمية وأشهر المؤلفات المتداولة بينهم، وعلاقتهم مع تلاميذهم. كذلك جهد المؤلف في سوق الأخبار والحكايات القصيرة التي تبرز من خلالها قيم المجتمع وأخلاقياته بصورة عفوية بعيدا عن التكلف والتفسيرات الفلسفية، والإجتماعية.
تأتي أهمية هذا السفر من كون الشيخ الأستاذ صالح العمري من ثقات أهل العلم وكان معاصراً لكثير من الأحداث التاريخية، وقد ساعده على ذلك وسطه العائلي حيث العمريون وآل سليم وعلى رأسهم جده لأمه العلامة المعروف عمر بن محمد بن سليم الذي لازمه كثيرا، وكان أهل العلم وطلبته يقصدونه من كل مكان. وآل سليم هم من قبيلة حرب المعروفة، وأما العمريون فأشهر علمائهم في القصيم في العصر الحديث الشيخ سليمان العمري إمام المسجد النبوي الشريف. والذي ينتهي نسبه إلى أمير المؤمنين عمر بن الخطاب (رضي الله عنه) كما هو مثبت في كتب التاريخ والتراجم؛ فهذا الكتاب حافل بسير علماء آل سليم وتلامذتهم وعلماء القصيم وخاصة المشاهير منهم ممن عاصرهم المؤلف ولم يتتلمذ ممن لم يكن من أهل القصيم. وأيضا آل سليم وتلامذتهم وسائر علماء القصيم الذين هم من الحنابلة منذ أن قامت دعوة الشيخ محمد بن عبد الوهاب ...
من هنا جاء هذا الكتاب إحياء لذكرى هؤلاء الذين أحيا الله بعلمهم وجهادهم خلقا كثيرا من أهل القصيم وغيرهم.
