تناول هذا الكتاب في البداية الجدل من حيث الاشتقاق اللغوي والاصطلاح لدى زينون الأيلي، السوفسطائيون، سقراط، ومن ثم مفهوم الجدل لدى أفلاطون، ارسطو، الرواقيون، وفلاسفة العصور الوسطى، وفي الفلسفة الحديثة مثل ديكارت، كانط، هيغل. ثم يعرض الجدل عند أرسطو: الجدل والمنطق، الجدل ونظرية المعرفة وصلة الجدل بالقياس والاستقراء. وينتقل إلى الجدل عند كانط: المنطق الصوري لديه، والجدل الترنسندنتالي وأفكار الميتافيزيقيا. ثم في الخاتمة النتائج التي انتهى المؤلف إليها مقارناً بين موقف كل من أرسطو وكانط في الجدل.
وهدف المؤلف في هذا الكتاب فصل القول في جدل أرسطو واختار نظرية كانط في الجدل كمثل من أمثلة تطوير الجدل الأرسطي. وهذا موضوع لم يسبق دراسته في المكتبة العربية.
