بعد نصف قرن من الطواف والتنقل والحرية والتشرد والفوضى والمنفى الإختياري، في إيران بدءاً، وبعد سنوات في سوريا ولبنان، يعود إلينا الشاعر أحمد الصافي النجفي، يحمل معه عشرة دواوين مطبوعة، ومئات من القصائد غير المنشورة، وتاريخ حياة مثيرة حافلة بمشاهد وتجارب وذكريات وجلسات في مقاهٍ كثيرة لا تنتهي أصداء أحاديثها مع أدباء وشعراء العصر، ومحبي الشاعر ومريديه، وكلمات تتدفق على لسانه يحاول أن يكثف بها تلك الصور المتلاحقة التي صاحبت رحلته الطويلة، وكيف اخترقت إطلاقتان جسمه الناحل، في بيروت، وهو يبحث عن خبز، إحداها مزقت ساقه والأخرى أصابت ظهره ونفذت من صدره، وكأن الزمن بجروحه الكثيرة شاء أن ينهي رحلة الشاعر برصاصات ألقته في الشارع ينزف ما، وتمر سيارة إسعاف بعد ساعة فتنقل الجريح إلى المستشفى، وينجو بصدفة أخرى تضاف إلى عشرات غيرها، لعبت في مسيرة حياته دوراً كبيراً.
