تؤمن جمعية العمل الوطني الديمقراطية بضرورة المحافظة على البيئة بمختلف مكوناتها البرية والبحرية والجوية وحمايتها من أخطار التلوث بكافة مصادره، بما في ذلك حماية الموارد الطبيعية ومصادر الثروة السمكية والحفاظ على مظاهر التنوع البيولوجي ومقومات الحياة الفطرية، وتنمية هذه الموارد بصورة مستديمة.
لا نبالغ إذا قلنا أن مشكلة البيئة، أصبحت واحدة من أكثر المشكلات تداولاً على ألسنة الناس وفي أجهزة الإعلام ويكفي أنها أصبحت تشكل أحد الأهداف التنموية للألفية الثالثة للمطالبين بضمان استدامة البيئة بوصفها رأس المال الحقيقي لحياة واستمرارية مجتمعنا.
فمجتمع البحرين، الذي يتكون من جزر، كان غنياً في بيئته وموارده، إلا أن التطورات التي رافقته، بعضها لأسباب موضوعية كنتيجة مباشرة للتقدم العلمي والتكنولوجي السريع في عصرنا الحاضر وبعضها الآخر لأسباب تعود للسياسة والمصالح الفئوية التي لا يهمها المصلحة العامة للوطن بل جمع الربح على حساب المجتمع والناس فيه، وهذا ما يحاول الباحث المتخصص في جمعية العمل الوطني الديمقراطي، عبد الحميد عبد الغفار في هذا الكتاب أن يكشفه بأدواته العلمية التي تعتمد على الإحصاء ولغة الأرقام مدعومة بأداة جديدة في البحث العلمي هي الصورة الفوتوغرافية.
