كقاعدة، يعتبر البشر المأساة الأكبر موت الأقارب. وهذا بالنسبة للكثيرين، هو موت الآمال والنجاحات الخاصة. وهناك من يعتبر أن فقدان العمل هو الأكثر خطورة بالنسبة لهم. وهناك آخرون، يخشون فقدان الأموال أو الصحة الجسدية أكثر من أي شيء آخر. فما هو مغزى الفقدان؟ ولماذا يتقبله كل إنسان بألم هكذا وتعاني منه الروح بهذا الشكل؟
إذا ما أمعنا التفكير، فإننا نصل إلى نتيجة مدهشة. فنحن نختبر الألم الرئيس ليس لسبب فقداننا لأحد ما أو شيء ما. فالموضوع يتلخص في أننا فاقدي شيء ما، نفقد إمكانية الحب. فموت الشخص المحبوب هو غياب فرصة منحه الدفء الروحي، الإهتمام، التضحية من أجله، تهذيبه، الخصام والتصادم معه وهذا فقدان لفرصة الحصول من خلاله على الألم والمعاناة، اللذان يقويان الحب أكثر وأكثر. أما فقدان العمل وأو النجاح فهو ايضاً عدم إمكانية منح الطاقة من أجل تدعيم النجاح وتنفيذ العمل.
كل ما نحبه يتطلب منا دائماً الطاقة. ونحن ملزمون بالتفكير، الإهتمام، السعي إلى موضوع حبنا، وهذا بالتحديد ما يجعلنا سعداء. فعندما نفقد الصحة، النجاح، وعندما يغادر المقربون الحياة، تتجرد روحنا من إمكانية الحب، التضحية والعطاء. وهذا تحديداً يعتبر، بالنسبة لروحنا، العذاب والمعاناة الأكبر.
من أجل فهم مغزى الوصايا العشر، يجب رؤية وحدتها. فكل الوصايا تنطلق من الأولى. وإذا ما حللنا نجد أن الوصايا العشر تنقسم إلى إتجاهين، الثلاثة الأولى منها تحدد العلاقة مع الله، والرابعة هي حلقة إنتقال من المنطق الإلهي إلى المنطق البشري. فتحدد الوصايا الست الباقية العلاقات بالناس والعالم.
وهكذا فإن الوصايا الست، المحددة للعلاقة مع الناس والعالم، هي إرشادات للتخلص من التبعية للغرائز، بالنسبة لكل من يوقف الشبق، الشهوانية، فإن غريزة إستمرار الجنس تصبح من الدرجة الثانية بالتدريج. وكل من يمنع الرغبة بالقتل، السطو، الكذب، وكل من ينتصر على البخل والحسد، هو شخص يضع غريزة حفظ الذات في المرتبة الثانية، وحب الله في المرتبة الأولى.
