لا شك أن سيرة الفرد تشكل جزءاً من تاريخ الوطن، ولعل أبرز ما يميز الكتابة عند الدكتور أسامة نهاد رفعت، أنها مبنية على أساس واقعي حقيقي من حيث المكان والزمان والوقائع والأحداث وكذلك الشخوص، بالإضافة إلى مواد أولية واقعية من صور، وشذرات، وحكايات شفهية، ورحلات عمل هي في مضمونها تشكل كما في العنوان "قصص ومواقف في الطب والحياة"، وقد حرص المؤلف أن تكون علمية السرد تاريخاً لذكريات محطات معينة في حياته سجل فيها وقائعاً وأحداثاً شاهدها وحكايات سمعها ومعلومات لمواقف عديدة مستقاة من آخرين. وبهذا ما يبرح المؤلف يتسلل من ثنايا النص ويطل برأسه بين فينة وأخرى متحدثاً عن كثير من العادات والتقاليد السائدة في مجتمعه في بدايات القرن العشرين في العراق، وفي هذه الرحلة بعضْ من روح الدعابة لاستعادة أحداث مضت وإحياء لأيام خلت.
والكتاب هو سجل تاريخي لفترة من حياة المؤلف حيث يحكي بإيجاز ذكريات خاصة عن العائلة (الجد: محمد رفعت حسين علي/الضابط في الجيش العثماني)، و(الأب: نهاد رفعت حسين علي/الطبيب)، و(العم: أكرم محمد رفعت/الطبيب)، وآخرون من رفاق الدرب في المدرسة والجامعة، وكل ذلك جاء في سياق قصص اليوميات التي تستعرض الأحداث حيث يبدا المؤلف باستعراض تاريخ العائلة بنوع من الفخر والإعجاب، ثم يبدأ بالتحدث عن نفسه مستعرضاً حوادث السنوات التي تلت تخرجه من كلية الطب والعمل في المؤسسات الطبية والتعليمية، حيث ساهم خلال ربع قرن مساهمة فعالة في تطوير العمل بشعبة الجراحة البولية وكان أول من قام بإجراء عمليات زرع الكلى في مؤسسات وزارة الصحة. أما في المجال التعليمي فقد أشرف المؤلف على تدريس وتخريج أجيال من الأطباء والمئات من الاختصاصيين في الجراحة البولية. وفي البحث العلمي نشر العديد من البحوث الطبية في مجلات وطنية-محلية وعالمية رشحته للحصول على مرتبة الأستاذية في كلية الطب بجامعة بغداد وليتبوأ منصب رئيس المجلس العلمي للجراحة البولية بالمجلس العراقي للاختصاصات الطبية...
