في هذا الكتاب يؤكد الخطيب "السيهاتي" على اهتمام الأئمة من آل البيت (رضي الله عنهم) بالشعر والشعراء، انطلاقاً من كونه أحد الأدوات المهمة في توجيه المجتمع وقراراته، ومن هذا المنطلق وجه الأئمة الشعراء في الإستفادة من طاقاتهم في مشروع مدرسة آل البيت بأن يكون شعرهم هادفاً إلى بيان المبادىء الحقة والعقائد الصحيحة، بدلاً من توجيه الطاقات إلى الأدب الماجن، الذي كان سائداً في تلك العصور برأي الكاتب. لأجل ذلك ركّز الأئمة على أحد الجوانب المهمة من الشعر وهو نظمه في مصائب آل البيت (عليهم السلام) وخصوصاً فاجعة كربلاء، ففاضت قرائحهم بقصائد دامية تنفطر لها القلوب، لذلك جاء هذا الكتاب يجمع ما بين دفتيه مراثي النبي (ص) وآل بيته الطاهرين (رضي الله عنهم) ونقرأ فيه:
مراثي النبي (ص) وفيها: رثاء النبي (ص)، بكاء الزهراء على أبيها، سؤال الزهراء للمحراب، يلي ذلك "مراثي السيدة فاطمة الزهراء عليها السلام" وفيها: في رثاء السيدة فاطمة الزهراء، الزهراء تشكو عند قبر أبيها، في وقوف الزهراء في المحشر، ثم ينتقل المؤلف إلى "مراثي أمير المؤمنين علي بن ابي طالب (رضي الله عنه) ونقرأ فيه جبرئيل ينعي الإمام علي (رضي الله عنه) ، في بكاء السيدة زينب على ابيها ... الخ. يتبع ذلك "مراثي الإمام الحسن بن علي (رضي الله عنه) ونقرأ فيه: في سمّ الإمام الحسن (رضي الله عنه) وخطابه مع الإمام السحين (رضي الله عنه) ... الخ. وأخيراً: مراثي عبرة المؤمنين الإمام الحسين بن علي (رضي الله عنه) ويضم باقة كبيرة من الأشعار التي قيلت في رثاء آل البيت نذكر منها: في رثاء بن هاشم، في رثاء شهداء ألطف، في وداع أم سلمة (رضي الله عنها) للإمام الحسين (رضي الله عنه)، في رثاء القاسم إبن الإمام الحسن إلى ىخر ذلك.
ومن هذا الكتاب نقتطف شعراً قيل "في رثاء الإمام الحسين وأنصاره (رضي الله عنهم)
، يا وقعة صارت برضى لطفوف / فيّها الشمس غابت والقمر صابه خسوف ، غابت اشمسوس الدين برضى ألطف / سبع العلا لجله دماً تذرف .
كتاب هام، يريد كاتبه إبراز دور شعر العقيدة ونشرها في مقابل العقائد الأخرى.
